Compliments are meant to make someone feel better, right? Or are they really just meant to make the person giving them feel like they are just SUCH a good person? Perhaps we're a little too cynical, but you can never be too careful. Nobody says anything without a certain reaction in mind. In a perfect world, someone's main intention in delivering a compliment is to make the other person feel gassed up, but we all know that there are about a billion reasons to give a compliment. To fill the dead air, to change a conversation topic, to convince someone that you are the kindest person in the world.
Sometimes there are some serious flaws in our wording when giving compliments. We might think that we nailed it but really we left the other person feeling extremely uncomfortable. There are many cases where it's better just to say nothing at all. Nobody really teaches us how to compliment, and it shows.
